With the news coming out that the United States Government will own about 72% of General Motors, I am now making a pledge not to buy cars from General Motors until the government is no longer in the business of owning car companies; and trying to regulate what type of cars should be produced.
In a recent interview President Barack Obama said the government had no choice but to take majority stake in General Motors. I find this reasoning unacceptable; being that this administration has given up on the free market to fix the situation.
The Government is causing the problems for the American car companies. They have been the ones that have regulated the car industry so much, it has effectively been broken in to pieces. They instruct the auto industry to make a certain type of car that will lower emissions, but then a couple of years later, after a lot of money has been put into productions and design of this car, the government steps in and changes the standard and type.
This is why I refuse to buy GM, and if this keeps happening, American made cars. I can't support a company which is now owned by the Federal Government. I can't support an ideology that abandons the free market.
If GM is that bad, then they should be allowed to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. By letting the protections that have been built into our system to allow companies the chance to restructure, GM would come out of bankruptcy more capable of producing effectively and eventually away from relying on the federal government for help.
The free market is the most precious aspect of this Republic. It is what separates us from the rest of the world. But now our government has moved us so far away from free market principles this is no longer true. They are taking us more towards socialism, and stripping the citizens of this country of individual liberty.
Liberty is worth protecting, and this is why I ask the question that I ask quite a bit...when is the R3VOLUTION??
The Feds are going to own only 60%, so you're cool. But why isn't any ownership > 0% enough?
ReplyDeleteYou know, at some point if we have nothing else besides free market then moral values and patriotism will suffer. Car Industry is international business and if USA gov. can manage it well then the US will benefit. Furthermore, the gov. has of course large budget... Investing in good cars and selling them worldwide could strenghten the US as a superpower. China is growing fast we gotta keep those chineese under controll homie..how are we going to do that?
ReplyDeleteKey on the word "free", people; free market system. Americans are free, their market systems is free. Americans have initiative and creativity and they are free thinkers, because they are free. This government is putting the shackles on that. It must stop. If an industry fails in the marketplace, it should be allowed to fail. Other markets and other marketers will take its place. That's how the free market system works. Americans don't give up. If our government gives up on us, we need to replace those in charge of this negative thinking.
ReplyDeleteScrew this super power crap....let the market do what the market does via capitalism...Now Barry and his merry band of thieves can regulate more of our already regulated lives. If you run a bad company you fail...rewarding bad behavior and then destroying the free market...yea..great idea. Worked well In Russia...
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese keep buying American bonds...they are loving this..our dollar will be worth 0 soon and everybody will ask how'd it happen? Just like the E bubble and the housing collapse Well here ya go!
Yepm me and hubby and the company are switching to ford and personal sellers!! Sorry GOV(and whatever GM is now), u lost our business!!
ReplyDeleteIf I were to buy a car, it would be a Ford, I refuse to patronize Gov't Motors, they are filing for bankruptsy anyway, every even semi=Conservative warned about this our money, whom Obama thinks is his has been wasted this whole thing is a Nightmare....
ReplyDeleteRice rockets only for me for me from here on out.
ReplyDeleteI have already made the commitment not to buy cars from government-owned companies and will not do business with government-run banks. I will not give credence to Obama's socialistic power grab. Besides, with the union owning a large stake in them, the quality of the vehicles are going to deteriorate even further. As long as I have the right to say no, I will exercise that right. No to Socialism. No to marxism. No to liberalism. No to the anti-constitutionalist, marxist, socialist democrats!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they'll be selling anything I'll be interested in buying. Kiss the trucks goodbye. It's going to be two cycle death traps.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the argument that if we don't buy GM, then we won't get paid back for the bailout. Then GM won't ever be private again. I'm just a leetle bit skeptical that will happen under any circumstances. Why would the USSA give up control of any industry that it has grabbed? Banks and Manugacturing are just the beginning.
ReplyDeleteWe aren't getting paid back anyway.
ReplyDeleteBuying a GM car is abandoning the free market principles that made this coutnry great.
You want to be a socialist, go ahead and buy GM. In fact, go ahead and buy two because they just lost a customer.
I will never even set foot in a GM auto again.
First of all you need to be able to afford one.
ReplyDeleteWith this free shit Google Blog I can see the red carpet rolling right out at the BMW dealer.
Grow up you ugly turd, get a job...I can do this all day... Your blog sucks.
Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?
ReplyDeleteThis is why I attack your grammar..."First of all you need to be able to afford one." Learn how to write, or get off the bottle you drunk.
ReplyDeleteI refuse too. I do not want Obama to tell GM to build lawn cars for us to drive!
ReplyDeleteI drive a 96 Ford Taurus we bought our daughter about 7 years ago for her first car. She bought a new one and I took her old. It runs better than my Malibu did, I sold the Malibu and kept her car. I have no payment and my insurance is a lot LOWER. I am going to drive it until the wheels fall off or Obama has it banned.
ReplyDeleteI won't buy anything else designed to fall apart in two years. GM shot themselves in the foot on that one, and all this Govt. owned industry is just another plank of Communism.
So, let me get this right... You won't spend money to buy American cars and support both the American car industry AND the government, because the government has a large stake in them? So, basically what you're saying is that you want GM to fail just so that it will show the government that socialism is bad. Or something like that...
ReplyDeleteGlad i am not the only one that is boycotting all Government operated car makers. Screw them. I would rather walk then give Oblama and his UAW minions a penny.
ReplyDeleteMost of these comments on refusing to buy GM now because of support for the free market is ludicrous. Free market principles indicate that without people trying to manipulate spending behavior, a government-run auto company will not do any better anyway. In fact, government-run enterprises tend to lose more if they sell more, so if you really want to demonstrate that this is a bad move, by all means, buy GM!
ReplyDeleteBut the resolution to this social ill is not in just making it clear that GM will do worse. Government enterprises tend to stay government enterprises. And if no one bought GM cars, that wouldn't reverse it. How long has Amtrak been around now?
