Repeal of the 22nd Amendment?

Just when you thought things couldn't get any crazier than they already have, here comes along a bill that currently isn't popular, but with this Congress, things can change really quick.

Rep Jose Serrano (D-NY) introduced earlier this year, and the media doesn't talk about these things until they actually come of something, a House Joint Resolution to repeal the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution. For all you none Constitutional scholars like myself, this is the Amendment that limits the number of terms a President can serve to two.

Here is the text of the legislation H. J. RES. 5:

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification

While this bill doesn't have any co-sponsors at the moment, who wants to bet that this bill becomes popular in the next couple of years, or if President Obama wins re-election?

This could be the start of tyrannical rule, and if it does come to something, then the theories preached by people like me will be validated.

It would require that 3/4 (37.5) of the states vote for it. Could this happen since 32 states took bailout money and could be forced to vote in favor?

still blows my mind that:
a) people were stupid enough to vote for Barry
b) even dumber people think that he's doing a good job!

I absolutely think this could happen... It has been tried numerous times in the past (if you can believe it). The times weren't right for it to gain support all those times before when this was brought up. But I am sure we will hear excuses (B.O. needs more time to fix Bush's messes, blah blah blah.) for this president to stay in office longer. If this succeeds we might as well start calling President B.O. "Oh, Great Dictator," because that is what he will be to us, and unfortunately the American people will probably be too lazy to protest like the Iranians.

As dumb as the Obama sheeple are, maybe when the economy continues to worsen, they will wake up and stop supporting their Messiah

After what unlimited terms have done to the Congress, one would suppose this bill would go nowhere. But, since the bill is in Congress, it will probably lay in the weeds until (if) Obama gets a second term. This is the Hugo Chavez model of government.

Yeah, I found the H.J.R.5 on OpenCongress.org just a few days ago. I am outraged, but not totally surprised. This guy who even suggested it is pure evil to the core of his being! He needs to be thrown out on his ear!!

Can you post the bill ID#?

This bill has been introduced, or talked about being introduced for a couple decades now. It has been introduced by a number of different people. Even twice from Republicans. Hopefully this one will get the same treatment as the rest. Nothing.

People may be saying, "It will never happen". Well, just a few months ago, who would have thought that the federal gov't would own Chrysler, GM, seveeral banks, have a major news network as their voice (NBC) and be in a position to take over the nation's energy infrastructure....all in the short period of less than 6 months? It CAN happen and if there was a president under which this can happen, it is B. Hussein Obama.

If the bailouts required 75% majority support, it would never had happened. Stop getting your knickers in a bunch over a legislative chain letter. And stop acting like this has never happened before.

Over the past week two friends who voted for Obama are now regretting their vote. Hopefully we can take heart that these folks certainly are not alone in their regrets. I think people are getting the drift of what is happening to the USA. Pelosi and Reid need to go also.

I think some of my friends that voted for stupid are starting to regret it, but know better than to complain to me about it, the morons.

If you read this stuff you need to get a life. First of all this is bull. No one is trying to do away with term limits on the president. The conservatives in Texas have tried it three times so we know it won't work. Conservatives and liberals need to show more respect to the President of your United States. How can you love the country and hate the president. If you dislike his policies that is one thing but why the personal attacks? After all his parents are white.(at least one of them.....)The economy is stabilizing look at the markets) and the economy would be better if the conservatives did not need the cheap Mexican labor to clean their houses and work their fields. While you are talking about the presidents birth certifate the conservatives are outsourcing jobs and selling us out to communistic China.....lol

Are you kidding me!!! That's almost as realistic getting Obama to quit the Presidency!!!
