The title of the post says it all...and I would have to agree with David Nolan to an extent.
Sarah Palin is being groomed by the national Republicans into something that will just be the same that every other Republican star turns out to be. She is not a true libertarian, or true conservative (which are the same). She is another big government advocate that requested money from the federal government at every turn as governor of Alaska.
Also, while I like Glenn Beck and can see his transformation to libertarianism, he is currently a wanna-be. He might have took Bush to task on certain issues, but he stilled holds a lot of neo-con positions, like our involvement overseas.
It is time to look hard for a leader that will let the American people live their lives as they chose. This is going to be hard, but don't buy into the notion that the Republican Party chooses that leader for you.
This is complete an utter bullshit! David Nolan has just lost any claim he may have once had for being a Libertarian.
ReplyDeleteHe's gone over to the Liberal/Fascist side, and we real Libertarians want nothing further to do with him.
Go to hell David Nolan. You ain't no damned Libertarian so you don't get to judge for the rest of us, who is and who is not a real Libertarian.
And why do you get to judge Eric? His had good points. Sarah Palin is a cover for the big government Repubs.
ReplyDeleteI agree,I also think Conservatives are making a huge mistake on their quest to vote for Conservative/third party politicians. Republicans are SUPPOSED to be the Conservative Party so instead of trying to create a brand new party that cannot come out swinging in time for 2010 and 2012, we need to clean house little by little just as we clean our homes, everytime we throw out one more thing. In NJ, the Republican was poised to win but the 3rd party nominee is taking votes away and Corzine could win in the end. It would have sent a frightening message to DC had the Republican won but everybody is busy trashing the Republican party as well as the Democrats .Glenn Beck and others are going to regret this GOP bashing, in the end,the GOP is a hell of a lot better than what is there now.
ReplyDeleteWe need to win, we need the numbers, we are fighting against a monster, a Conservative will lose in 2012.
Nolan- right again. Until Palin repudiates her associations with that piece of garbage McCain, she will never be a libertarian. Beck's coming around but he's still a statist, which must explain why Dondero is so fond of the both of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how a Bush apologist like Eric Dondero could ever, in this universe, be considered "libertarian". I guess because he runs a blog with the word in the title; that's my only explanation.
ReplyDeleteWhy shouldn't we Alaskans ask the federal government for money every chance we get. The federal government owns 65% of all land in Alaska. We cannot use, we cannot get property tax money from it, we cannot sell to private industry or private individuals. No, you can consider all the money we ask for from the government as rent monies for land we cannot use.
ReplyDeleteNow, if you are willing and ready to return the land to we the people of Alaska then you may have a complaint, until that time, we will continue to hit the government up for money, as long as there is money to go around, and why not, we deserve it for the land we cannot use or own.
Geez, how is it that I'm a libertarian? Let's see now. Good question. Might have something to do with my political stances:
ReplyDeletePro-Choice
Pro-Drug Legalization
Anti-Seat Belt Laws
Lower the Drinking Age
Abolish the IRS
End US Membership in the UN
Abolish the BATF, NEA, Repeal Medicare/Medicaid
Privatization of Social Security
Or maybe it has something to do with my 25+ Year resume as a Libertarian Activist:
Libertarian National Committee member 1986/87
Libertarian State House candidate 1986
Travel Aide, Libertarian for President Ron Paul 1987/88
Founder, Republican Liberty Caucus 1990
Personal Aide, 1976 Libertarian Presidential candidate Roger MacBride 1990 - 95
Campaign Coordinator, Ron Paul for Congress 1995/96
Senior Aide, US Congressman Ron Paul, 1997-2003
Co-Founder, Libertarians for Bush, 2004
Top Petitioner for Bob Barr for President - 7 States early 2008
Co-Founder, Draft Sarah Palin for VP 2007/08
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Any questions???
I'm not pro-choice but you good job making your point.
ReplyDelete"Libertarians for Bush"- LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnd half of your shitty "resume" is based on Ron Paul, whom you know bash at every opportunity because you guys had a falling out a decade or 2 ago. Good job, you're doing a lot for liberty supporting statists like Palin.
Now, not "know", my mistake
ReplyDeleteGood job Eric. Libertarians for Bush 2004? 2004????
ReplyDeleteI can see 2000... But 2004?
His biggest campaign point in 2004 was all about how he was going to double the size of the Department of Education!
Your resume shows very clearly that you USED TO BE a Libertarian...
I'm a "what have you done for us lately" kind of guy.
Disagree about Palin & Beck. The most simple equation is that some liberal has chosen to try to divide a conservative base away from some very conservative people. Certainly away from the Republican Party. The whole problem is, the Repubs (at least in D.C. & in leadership) have been moving closer to the liberals & progressives of the Democratic Party. Seems to me that we need to be unifying & including folks instead of trying to alienate & distance them.
ReplyDeleteBabs,
ReplyDeleteHow many decades do you think we should try to live on "Hope" that the Republican Party will "Change"?
They're losing because they're not conservative. That's the way democracy works.
I'm no political genius, but having read all the labeling and character assaults in the few prior comments, I'm wondering if this particular Conservative even needs to be a part of this group! Geez people...aren't we on the same side???!!! Get OVER your self-important selves!
ReplyDeleteI think we can all disagree on the small stuff. Anonymous (@3:04 use names people) you just threw an insult at the same time you complained about the insults! Babs you are right about cleaning house in the GOP but how to do that if you don't call the imposters to task. Libertarians and Republicans can work together in most cases. I disagree a little bit with the comment that true conservatives are libertarians. What is passing for true conservatives are too "religion in your face" for me. NOT that I have anything against religion if that is your choice.
ReplyDeleteHowever, one thing we can ALL agree on is fiscal responsibility and that is our strength and where we need to focus. Palin and Beck serve their purpose, I doubt any party will seriously consider Palin anytime soon for a political run. Beck is indeed learning.
I do think the title for this article was a bit harsh. The last thing we want is for the left to point even more fingers at us "see they can't even agree on anything amongst themselves, how can they be trusted to lead".
David Nolan needs to learn grammar.
ReplyDeleteI'm still laughing at the "Libertarians for Bush" group.... why not call it "Libertarians for Murder"?
ReplyDeleteHe might have "took" Bush? His perspective on Palin and Beck are simply his opinion, as is mine that someone is a wanna be writer in need of an English class.
ReplyDeleteM. Sherman
Libertarian is NOT a conservative party, at least, not in the sense that this author seems to be using it. You can be a conservative Libertarian or a moderate Libertarian or a liberal Libertarian, but the party as a whole is not conservative, never has been; however, it is a party of freedom and minimum government interference in the people's lives. Many of the issues Nolan supports are NOT issues conservatives would support and vice-versa. I speak as a conservative Libertarian.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you all fight more among yourselves than against the "big government" types. I was looking for people who wanted to help solve the problem of BIG government, not bicker. Maybe I'm just sensitive because I just had surgery and my father just passed away, but what is all of this? Sorry, I'm new to this, maybe I don't know how it works.
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteWe're fighting against big government types that have infiltrated our movement. The true conservative/libertarian movement is small government. We're trying to prevent fakes like Dondero from entering the group and destroy it from within. Anyone who fancies themselves a Bush apologist has absolutely no place in the freedom movement except as an example of what NOT to be. That's what we're fighting.
keep it up -fight among yourselves-your playing into Obamas hands-I have more in common with Glenn & Sarah than any of the above-As Ronald Reagan Said"If I can agree with 80% with someone -then I'm in"-
ReplyDelete...why are there no longer any federal politicians in either of our countries (I'm in Canada) who will both do and say what is best for the political geography of citizens they hope (if not yet elected) to make decisions for?
ReplyDeleteAnswer:
A) they're selfish
B) they give in to intimidation
C) they give in to bribes
D) their party doesn't want them to become their leader
E) they're unfairly character assassinated
F) they're murdered
G) other
H) any combination and/or all of the above
...so we end up with different types and degrees of unintegrous politician options, regardless of which party they're in.
Saddened,

(no, I'm not a 'Jew', but I'm not biased for them, nor biased against them, nor undecided about them...same goes for the 'Muslims')
Third parties take votes away? Perhaps if the GOP didn't suck and lie and disregard their tenets, they would not lose those votes. They lose them all on their own. No help is needed from smaller parties. Try voting for the person who represents your beliefs instead of who you think will win and you might see some liberty minded people like Ron Paul take office, you will find a lot more of them under small party tickets than you will in the GOP!!
ReplyDeleteBrad is absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteAnd how can we be "fighting amongst ourselves" when there are people in our midst who support wars and statism? Just because they claim to be libertarians does not make it so.
