U.S. Official Resigns Over Afghan War: no longer knows why his nation is fighting

This nation has been fighting in Afghanistan for 8 years now, and we are still in the midst of battle with Taliban insurgents, but why? This war was won a long time ago, but we continued to fight and now we are facing an even bigger obstacle.

However, it now appears that U.S. Officials that have dealings with the war are resigning over our policies in this region of the world, and for good reason.

From the Washington Post:

A former Marine Corps captain with combat experience in Iraq, Hoh had also served in uniform at the Pentagon, and as a civilian in Iraq and at the State Department. By July, he was the senior U.S. civilian in Zabul province, a Taliban hotbed.

But last month, in a move that has sent ripples all the way to the White House, Hoh, 36, became the first U.S. official known to resign in protest over the Afghan war, which he had come to believe simply fueled the insurgency.

"I have lost understanding of and confidence in the strategic purposes of the United States' presence in Afghanistan," he wrote Sept. 10 in a four-page letter to the department's head of personnel. "I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end."

The reaction to Hoh's letter was immediate. Senior U.S. officials, concerned that they would lose an outstanding officer and perhaps gain a prominent critic, appealed to him to stay.

This raises a big question...why are we still there? It is time to come home and stop policing the world.

First, war should have been declared in Afghanistan, but it never was. Secondly, we are causing even more problems by staying over there, and when our President is hesitating on whether he should give the troops what they need, it is probably time to just come home. The war is won...it is over, and we are just pouring fuel on the fire.

  1. There is good reason to stay and finsih the job, however I do agree that we seem to have lost the will to finish it, and if Obama is going to fiddle as Afghanistan burns, I would agree that it is time to pull out our forces and let the Afgahn government defend themselves. However also, a stern warning should be sent to Al-Qaeda and the Talibums, if we get attacked again, "We'll Be Baack"

  2. I feel we ned to win in Afghanistan, for the people who lives there. My beleive is if Ohama
doesn't sent troop soon then we will lost this war.
I don't went any more of our troop being kill, if Obama is sitting on his hand by not allowing more troop, then it time to bring them home.

The other nations are asking Ohama to help our troops, but he can't make up his own mind.

    The Question is WHY?

  3. Obama needs to pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq NOW. We never should have been in either country. We finished our mission of ousting Al Qaeda (even thought they didn't carry out 9/11, Saudis did) and the Taliban in Afghanistan. There was never a reason to be in Iraq.

Obama's a warmonger, just like Bush.
