The Emperor bowed to Obama as well...It's a polite cultural thing...they don't see bowing as a royal or godly thing...japanese people bow to eachother, its like a handshake there
even my 7th grade students could name reasons why its ridiculous for our president to bow to other leaders. and...anyone questioning why he only gave a head bow to the queen of England (an ally!!)but gives the full bow to the Chinese and Saudi leaders? racist? sexist? just thinking...
As a 7th grade teacher, you should be aware of the cultural differences between the U.S. and Japan. In Japan, a bow is like our customary handshake. In Asia they bow from the waist. It is customary in England to bow from the neck. In Saudi Arabia a full bow is not necessary. Your 7th grade students can only know what they're taught by teachers and parents, so teaching them these facts is indispensable to their education.
