The Power of Obama's Hand?
Not joking......this was a head line on the Politico today with this picture. The healer? The Messiah?

The story was about the touch of Obama, and the influence he can have on you once you meet him:

The story was about the touch of Obama, and the influence he can have on you once you meet him:
It’s the Obama Touch — the squeeze on the biceps, the pat on the shoulder or the tap on the back that signals the displeasure of the commander in chief. Let others turn on the deep freeze or lose their cool when they’re annoyed. Obama prefers to deal with problems by taking them in hand — literally.
Just ask Vice President Joe Biden, who made a joke about Chief Justice John Roberts flubbing the oath of office last week and immediately felt his boss’s disapproval, in the form of Obama’s fingers on his back.
“[Obama] was castigating him. There’s no other way to put it,” says Joe Navarro, a former FBI special agent specializing in nonverbal communication. “Biden got it immediately,” he adds. “It looked like a little, subtle touch, but you could immediately see that Vice President Biden was contrite after that.”
Rush Limbaugh's Response to Obama
If you haven't been around in a few days then you wouldn't know the back and forth between President Obama and Rush Limbaugh. Obama told House Republicans that if they want to get anything done, they shouldn't listen to Rush Limbaugh.
Apparently Obama is more scared of Limbaugh then he is of Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, and John Bohener, the House Minority Leader.
Here is Rush's response in the Wall Street Journal this morning:

Here is Rush's response in the Wall Street Journal this morning:
By RUSH LIMBAUGH
There's a serious debate in this country as to how best to end the recession. The average recession will last five to 11 months; the average recovery will last six years. Recessions will end on their own if they're left alone. What can make the recession worse is the wrong kind of government intervention.
I believe the wrong kind is precisely what President Barack Obama has proposed. I don't believe his is a "stimulus plan" at all -- I don't think it stimulates anything but the Democratic Party. This "porkulus" bill is designed to repair the Democratic Party's power losses from the 1990s forward, and to cement the party's majority power for decades.
Keynesian economists believe government spending on "shovel-ready" infrastructure projects -- schools, roads, bridges -- is the best way to stimulate our staggering economy. Supply-side economists make an equally persuasive case that tax cuts are the surest and quickest way to create permanent jobs and cause an economy to rebound. That happened under JFK, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. We know that when tax rates are cut in a recession, it brings an economy back.
Recent polling indicates that the American people are in favor of both approaches.
Notwithstanding the media blitz in support of the Obama stimulus plan, most Americans, according to a new Rasmussen poll, are skeptical. Rasmussen finds that 59% fear that Congress and the president will increase government spending too much. Only 17% worry they will cut taxes too much. Since the American people are not certain that the Obama stimulus plan is the way to go, it seems to me there's an opportunity for genuine compromise. At the same time, we can garner evidence on how to deal with future recessions, so every occurrence will no longer become a matter of partisan debate.
Congress is currently haggling over how to spend $900 billion generated by American taxpayers in the private sector. (It's important to remember that it's the people's money, not Washington's.) In a Jan. 23 meeting between President Obama and Republican leaders, Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.) proposed a moderate tax cut plan. President Obama responded, "I won. I'm going to trump you on that."
Yes, elections have consequences. But where's the bipartisanship, Mr. Obama? This does not have to be a divisive issue. My proposal is a genuine compromise.
Fifty-three percent of American voters voted for Barack Obama; 46% voted for John McCain, and 1% voted for wackos. Give that 1% to President Obama. Let's say the vote was 54% to 46%. As a way to bring the country together and at the same time determine the most effective way to deal with recessions, under the Obama-Limbaugh Stimulus Plan of 2009: 54% of the $900 billion -- $486 billion -- will be spent on infrastructure and pork as defined by Mr. Obama and the Democrats; 46% -- $414 billion -- will be directed toward tax cuts, as determined by me.
Then we compare. We see which stimulus actually works. This is bipartisanship! It would satisfy the American people's wishes, as polls currently note; and it would also serve as a measurable test as to which approach best stimulates job growth.
I say, cut the U.S. corporate tax rate -- at 35%, among the highest of all industrialized nations -- in half. Suspend the capital gains tax for a year to incentivize new investment, after which it would be reimposed at 10%. Then get out of the way! Once Wall Street starts ticking up 500 points a day, the rest of the private sector will follow. There's no reason to tell the American people their future is bleak. There's no reason, as the administration is doing, to depress their hopes. There's no reason to insist that recovery can't happen quickly, because it can.
In this new era of responsibility, let's use both Keynesians and supply-siders to responsibly determine which theory best stimulates our economy -- and if elements of both work, so much the better. The American people are made up of Republicans, Democrats, independents and moderates, but our economy doesn't know the difference. This is about jobs now.
The economic crisis is an opportunity to unify people, if we set aside the politics. The leader of the Democrats and the leader of the Republicans (me, according to Mr. Obama) can get it done. This will have the overwhelming support of the American people. Let's stop the acrimony. Let's start solving our problems, together. Why wait one more day?

Republicans Actually Stand for Something.....What a Suprise

In a show of partisan glory, the Republicans in the House of Representatives actually stood for something.
They came pretty darn close to standing for principle, but only time will shed light on this fact.
From the Wall Street Journal:
After a day of spirited debate on the House floor, 177 House Republicans voted en masse against the proposal. Joining them were 11 House Democrats, including Reps. Allen Boyd of Florida, Bobby Bright and Parker Griffith of Alabama, Jim Cooper of Tennessee, Brad Ellsworth of Indiana, Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania, Frank Kratovil of Maryland, Walt Minnick of Idaho, Collin Peterson of Minnesota, Heath Shuler of North Carolina, and Gene Taylor of Mississippi.
This is only the first step in a show of dignity, and brains. If the Republican Party in Congress is starting to realize that they have been mistaken over the last few years when it comes to true conservative principles, then we will continue to see this unification against big government, and no more promoting.
Our financial future is at stake, and socialistic policies will destroy any attempt we have of gaining back true freedom in this country. This stimulus bill was not a stimulus, but rather a referendum on failed democratic projects that they seek to re institute.
This is not change, but more of the same.

Making the Problem Worse----Ron Paul on "Morning Joe"
The stimulus bill is inching closer to $1 Trillion, and this is just the beginning. What are the reasons we are in this mess? Well, as always, Congressman Ron Paul of Texas has the right answers, but Washington doesn't listen to him.
Listen to him!:
I am surprised that he doesn't get tired of speaking the same words, because they don't seem to listen to the words coming out of his mouth.
The Dr. is right, and has the prescription for the economy!

Agricultural Subsidies.....Welfare for Farmers
With all the ridiculous bailouts of the banking system that is currently happening in the United States, it seems that the time has come to end federal subsidies to farmers, in an effort to spark the free market system.
Watch this video from Reason T.V. for a perspective on farm subsidies in our country:
Our government is wasting billions of dollars in handouts to farmers, and this contributes to the financial problem we face today. Spending by Washington grows and grows every year, and half of it comes from wasteful programs.
Agricultural Subsidies are a wasteful program. Farmers are paid to grow crops that the government dictates, and over passe the free market.
If we were to let the free market dictate the crops that farmers grow, than farmers in this country would be more productive and flourish. Instead, the agricultural lobby has control in Congress, and influences the politicians to continue supporting farm subsidies. This in turn has an effect on political campaigns for higher office, because they are now beholden to the farmers for votes.

Consider these facts. Ninety percent of all subsidies go to just five crops: corn, rice, cotton, wheat, and soybeans. Two thirds of all farm products—including perishable fruits and vegetables—receive almost no subsidies. And just 10 percent of recipients receive 75 percent of all subsidies. A program intended to be a “temporary solution” has become one of our government’s most glaring examples of corporate welfare.

Don't Think We Are Printing Money? Chart Proves Otherwise
Check out this chart that shows the history of United States recessions in the past 100 years and the rate of money injected into the system. Look at the point on the chart for the current time period and tell me that line doesn't look like a rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral:

This is very startling and troubling. This is socialism at its finest. A massive increase in government spending to fix a free market system. We are printing money at an alarming rate, and it is not stopping any time soon. We are killing the dollar and any leverage we have in the world.
As I always ask...when does the revolution start?

Apparently Obama the Only Politician that Can Write
In the little world we will call Chris Matthews head, it appears that his love affair with the new President is still smoldering, and he doesn't think Sarah Palin has the ability to pen a book, or read for that matter.
Watch this video:
I still have no idea what NBC sees in this piece of garbage. He has no ability to argue substantively, but rather attacks faithful servants to their country when he has no clue about that person, or their abilities.

Wake Up America!! We Are Going Broke
I posted this video a few months back, but wanted to give new readers of this blog a chance to see it and share their thoughts.
I.O.U.S.A is a movie made in conjunction with the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, lead by former Comptroller General of the United States David Walker. He served as the nations top accountant for the better part of the decade and says the greatest threat to our country is not radical Islam, but fiscal irresponsibility and over spending by the federal government.
Watch this 30 minute version of the movie to gain a better understanding of the state of our fiscal situation:
Look at what is happening right now...President Obama is proposing a $825 Billion stimulus that will be labeled with pork spending, and his only solution is to increase spending and bailout failing companies.
This movie wasn't made that long ago and already the debt has gone from $8 Trillion to almost $11 Trillion, and the bailouts have exceeded into the double digit Trillion range.
Do they not see the problem? Or are they just arrogant?

British Revolution----Longing for their Rights Back
As our government in the United States gets bigger and bigger, it would be wise to see what happens to other countries that have followed the same path.

Glenn Beck Interview with Wives of Ramos and Compean
This is a great interview with the wives of Ramos and Compean, the two Border Patrol agents that were convicted of doing their job on behalf of the United States. President Bush commuted their sentences as one of his last acts in office.
As I stated when I broke the news, these men should have been pardoned, but at least these families will have a sense of relief.

President Obama Gives Stellar Inaugural Speech

I will be the first to admit that President Barack Obama gave a very good Inaugural speech. I was very impressed by the eloquence of the words and style.
For example:
In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.
And another:
As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.
I will caution people who will read this that we have seen in recent history that words do not go far with actions. Take for example the former President George W. Bush. He spoke about small government and prosperity, but failed to act on the promise, and sold his principles for socialistic ideas.
I hope the new President can be successful, but only time will tell.
Obama Screws Up the Oath___Great Start to his Presidency
Not to be mean, but first Obama flubbed the oath, and then the Chief Justice had the line backwards.
Because I like John Roberts a hell of a lot more than I like Obama, I will say he screwed up because Obama screwed up first.
Here is the oath, as to be said:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Great start for the new President.
Update_____________________
It looks like the Daily Kos, which is the sacred website of the left, doesn't understand what they are talking about:
THERE IS NO PART ABOUT DEFENDING THE CONSTITUION "AGAINST ALL ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC."
Again, this is the oath:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

... he left out the part about defending the Constitution "against all enemies foreign and domestic".Just wait: wingnuts will seize upon that to try to cast doubt on the legitimacy of Obama's presidency. "He didn't take the whole oath", they'll scream, "so he's not the President!!!"

Breaking News!!!! Bush Commutes Senateces of Ramos and Compean

Great news from the AP:
WASHINGTON (AP) - In his final acts of clemency, President George W. Bush on Monday commuted the prison sentences of two former U.S. Border Patrol agents whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited fierce debate about illegal immigration.
Bush's decision to commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to cover up the shooting, was welcomed by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. They had long argued that the agents were merely doing their jobs, defending the American border against criminals. They also maintained that the more than 10-year prison sentences the pair was given were too harsh.
Rancor over their convictions, sentencing and firings has simmered ever since the shooting occurred in 2005.
Ramos and Compean became a rallying point among conservatives and on talk shows where their supporters called them heroes. Nearly the entire bipartisan congressional delegation from Texas and other lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle pleaded with Bush to grant them clemency.
Bush didn't pardon the men for their crimes, but decided instead to commute their prison sentences because he believed they were excessive and that they had already suffered the loss of their jobs, freedom and reputations, a senior administration official said.
The action by the president, who believes the border agents received fair trials and that the verdicts were just, does not diminish the seriousness of their crimes, the official said.
Compean and Ramos, who have served about two years of their sentences, are expected to be released from prison within the next two months.
All I can say "its about time!" Even though they should have received full pardons for their crime, they will no longer have to suffer in prison for doing their jobs of defending America. God bless these American Patriots and their families.
Glenn Beck Declares Himself a Libertarian

There have been many people that realized the Republican Party has abandoned the true sentiment of what people in the party really believe and have left for a different idea of governance. The Republicans claim to believe that they are for less government and individual rights, but as this writer learned, it is no longer true.
Ronald Reagan once said that the heart of conservatism is libertarianism, and now Glenn Beck has officially grab the reigns of this idea.
From the Miami Herald:
Glenn Beck goes on the air with Fox News for the first time Monday afternoon, and he's got a surprise for you: He's not a conservative anymore.
"Every day that goes by, I'm more and more libertarian,'' says Beck, whose new show (titled, coincidentally, Glenn Beck) will air from 5 to 6 p.m. weekdays. 'I've always been a conservative. But every day I find myself believing more and more in states' rights, individual rights -- let people alone, get the government out of everybody's lives, let everybody rule themselves."
The article also talks about the more extreme views in the Libertarian movement, and Becks response:
What will be different is Beck's political perspective. Libertarians eschew the culture wars, think drugs and pornography should be legal, favor an isolationist foreign policy and generally believe in shrinking the government to about the size of a walnut -- all of which appalls most mainstream conservatives. Beck, in fact, regularly ridiculed libertarians on his CNN show for their beliefs about foreign policy and drugs.
He says that conversations these days with his old conservative friends have become, umm, interesting.
"We have some fierce arguments,'' Beck says. 'I've always been for a strong military. I've always been for protecting our interests abroad. But we have moved into a whole new zone that doesn't make sense. We can't coddle dictators in Egypt and Saudi Arabia and say, `Hey, do our dirty work for us,' and then expect to be respected around the world. It won't work.
'I think we've got to say to the world, `If you come after us like they did on 9/11, we will pound you into rubble. Otherwise, we're minding our own business.'"
To reiterate for the people who read this blog, I am in the same boat as Beck. There are people who still try and call me a hot blooded conservative, but I am not. The title of this blog "Conservative for Change" says it all. I am a Ron Paul Republican.
